UPSC CSE photo and signature size
UPSC asks for a JPG photograph of 20–200 KB with the face covering three quarters of the frame, plus one JPG of three signatures at 20–100 KB.
Your image never leaves this phone. The resize happens on this device. ExamPicResizer does not receive the file.
Part of this preset is not a number printed in the notice. The table says which part. If the form disagrees, follow the form.
Prepare the file
The instruction sheet sets no pixel size. The tool scales the long edge to 1,000 pixels only so a phone photo can land between 20 and 200 KB. That edge length is not a UPSC rule.
Target 20–200 KB · part of this target is not printed in the notice
What the notice says
The CSE 2026 notice points photo and signature rules to the instructions on upsconline.nic.in. That sheet asks for a colour JPG named photo, between 20 KB and 200 KB, with the face covering at least 75 percent of the picture and a plain white background. It does not print a pixel size for the photograph.
The signature is three signatures, one under another, in black ink on plain white paper, scanned as a single JPG named signature. File size is 20 KB to 100 KB. The sheet says image dimensions of 350 to 500 pixels and does not say whether that is the width, the height, or both. The 380×500 target below keeps both sides inside that band. That reading is unverified.

Status colours: green means the figure was read from the notice, red means part of the row is not printed there.
Passport photograph
The instruction sheet sets no pixel size. The tool scales the long edge to 1,000 pixels only so a phone photo can land between 20 and 200 KB. That edge length is not a UPSC rule.
- JPG, file size 20 KB to 200 KB, saved with the file name photo.
- Colour photo, plain white background, face covering at least three quarters of the frame.
- Look straight at the camera. Both ears visible, eyes open, no signature on the photo.
- A live photograph is also captured in the form and matched to this file.
- Pixel dimensions. UPSC states the KB range and face coverage, not a width or height.
Triple signature
The sheet says 350–500 pixels and does not name the axis. 380×500 puts both sides inside that range so a vertical stack still fits. Confirm the crop on the portal preview.
- Sign three times, vertically, with a clear gap, in black ink on plain white paper.
- One image, JPG, file name signature, 20 KB to 100 KB.
- Exactly three signatures. Horizontal rows, blue ink, lined paper, and a single signature are shown as rejected samples.
- Which side the 350–500 pixel range applies to. The sheet does not say width, height, or both.
Why these files get rejected
- Face covering less than three quarters of the photograph, or a blurred or tilted face.
- Dark background, uniform, coloured glasses, hair over the eyes, or a signature written on the photograph.
- Only one signature, or three signatures placed side by side.
- Blue ink, lined paper, or coloured paper.
- A signature file outside 20–100 KB, or a photograph outside 20–200 KB.
Questions candidates actually ask
What is the UPSC photo size in KB?
20 KB to 200 KB, JPG, file name photo. The face must cover at least 75 percent of the frame on a plain white background. No pixel size is printed.
How do I scan the UPSC signature?
Sign three times down the page in black ink, leave a gap between them, and scan all three as one JPG named signature, 20 KB to 100 KB.
Is the signature 350×500 or 350 to 500 on one side?
The instruction sheet only says image dimensions 350–500 pixels. It does not say which side. This tool’s 380×500 output is one reading that keeps both sides in range, and it is marked unverified.
Why is there a live photo as well as an upload?
The CSE 2026 notice requires both. The live capture is matched to the uploaded photograph. A mismatch stops the application.
